CLINICAL PLACEMENTS WITH HEART & MIND

Heart & Mind is committed to fill social care gaps by providing a range of high quality, affordable and professional services to our communities. As a counselling provider, Heart & Mind subscribes to a Christian worldview and the practice guidelines and ethical standards of the Association of Christian Counsellors (ACC).

Heart & Mind’s counselling service offers a limited number of clinical placements for trainee counsellors and psychotherapists currently undertaking professional training or qualified practitioners working towards professional accreditation.

Recruitment sessions are held at various times throughout the year, depending on vacancies.

HOW TO APPLY FOR A CLINICAL PLACEMENT AT HEART & MIND

To apply for a Psychotherapy & Counselling Placement with Heart & Mind, please complete our online 'Clinical Placement Application' form, providing us with some information about yourself. Before you apply, please ensure you read carefully through the clinical placement information on this page.

WHAT DOES A HEART & MIND PLACEMENT OFFER?

  • You are part of a like-minded and supportive team who invests into the mental health and well-being of our community

  • You develop your expertise in short-term and medium-term work and will be able to work with clients from varied backgrounds and with different presenting issues

  • You collect client hours helping you to work towards professional accreditation or counselling training requirement. (Keep in mind that you may not be able to achieve the required client hours through a Heart & Mind placement alone)

  • You have access to complimentary, monthly group supervision meetings at Heart & Mind

WHAT ARE HEART & MIND’S EXPECTATIONS?

  • You are a trainee counsellor / psychotherapist with a minimum of 100 hours of counselling training (level 3 or higher) and are enrolled on a recognised professional training course (diploma level 4 or higher). We particularly welcome applications from trainee counsellors who have a minimum of 50 supervised counselling hours or those able to demonstrate one to one work experience within the pastoral care field

  • You are available to see clients during a number of agreed blocks of time each week

  • You have regular individual clinical supervision as required by the Association of Christian Counsellors (ACC) and are willing to attend Heart & Mind’s monthly group supervision meetings

  • You have your own individual member / student membership with the Association of Christian Counsellors (ACC) and agree to work within the terms of ACC’s ‘Ethics and Practice’

  • You have your own, up to date, annual professional indemnity and public liability insurance, are registered with the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) as a data controller and are in possession of a valid enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) certificate

  • If still in training, you have a letter from your college or university tutor to confirm you are ready for a clinical placement at Heart & Mind

  • If you are offered a place, we would usually expect you to give a commitment of 18 months

THE APPLICATION PROCESS FOR CLINICAL PLACEMENTS

  1. Complete our online ‘Clinical Placement Application’ form

  2. If we have any openings and you meet the criteria, you will be invited to attend an interview, providing you with an opportunity to ask any further questions you might have

  3. You will be asked to provide two references

  4. If your application is successful you will receive an official placement offer, including a suggested starting date. Offers of clinical placements are subject to a three-month probation period

  5. You will be required to provide an enhanced DBS certificate, copies of your professional indemnity and liability insurance, ICO registration, ACC membership certificate and if still in training, a letter from your college or university tutor to confirm you are ready for a clinical placement

  6. Induction training will be arranged to introduce you to the counselling premises, practical guidelines and placement support structures. During induction you will be signing the placement agreement form
