WHAT IS ON OFFER?

Heart & Mind offers you the option to book online video consultations from the comfort of your home. The guidance below is meant to help you to prepare for your online video consultations and get the most out of it.

I appreciated doing it on Zoom as it avoided me feeling anxious about going somewhere new and meant I could do it straight after work. My counsellor was amazing. I felt we connected and I could trust her.

WHAT TO CONSIDER WHEN BOOKING ONLINE CONSULTATIONS

  • Online consultations are convenient and easy. They can save you time, energy and travel expenses. While they are like face to face consultations they can feel different in both pace and tone

  • You need access to a good internet connection and a charged up computer, tablet or smartphone with a built in camera and a microphone

  • You will need a quiet, well-lit and undisturbed place for your consultations. It will be easier to engage more fully in the sessions if you feel confident your conversations cannot be overheard. You may need to be creative about finding a confidential space, perhaps sitting in a car, if you have one

HOW TO PREPARE FOR ONLINE CONSULTATIONS

Having an appointment from your home environment may feel more informal, which may affect how you prepare for and experience your meetings. It can help the process if you take the following steps:

  • To minimise distractions, turn off other devices during your online video appointments (e.g phone, TV). Please put all other activities aside so you can focus on the session

  • Set up a space where you can sit comfortably for the duration of your appointment, preferably with your device supported hands-free and set up so that you remain clearly visible with adequate lighting and without needing to make adjustments as you talk

  • It is helpful if you refrain from eating or drinking (other than water) during the sessions

  • Please don’t make any kind of recordings of your online consultations unless you and your counsellor or coach explicitely agree

ON THE DAY OF YOUR ONLINE CONSULTATION

  • Start the video call a few minutes before the scheduled appointment. You may have been given a link to click on

  • Your counsellor or coach will join you or call you when they are ready

  • In the event that the connection is lost due to technological difficulties, we will attempt to reestablish the connection. If this is not possible, we will contact you by an alternative method (e.g. email or phone) to either continue the session or reschedule

  • Towards the end of your consultation we will take time to agree the next online video consultation with you

  • After the consultation ends, it can be important to take a little time to adjust back to the life around you. It might be worth planning a short walk or a little time to yourself for a short period in order to reflect on the session

  • Please keep in mind that your counsellor or coach won’t be able to accept any social media invitations from you or any other form of contact via social media
